Young Authors: Short Story Fiction
All of our favorite stories started with a writer’s dream. The Young Authors Workshop gives campers the chance to explore their dreams and create their own stories. With the help of our experienced writing pros, each young author will spend the week developing his or her unique written voice.
Together, we will examine stories we love in order to learn about the structure and dynamics of good story telling. Along the way, we will explore characters, genres, plot, and other details that make writing come alive. Campers will create their own heroes, villains, quirky sidekicks, lovable rogues, and talking animals!
Each week students will work to complete one piece of short fiction that is all their own. These stories will be collected together into our digital Young Authors Anthology. Copies of the anthology will be distributed so that our stories can be shared with friends and family.
Along the way, we will:
Read stories to learn about plot, structure, and characters -- critical components of writing compelling stories
Develop critical reading skills, helping students advance their reading level
Practice and improve creative writing skills
Write an original short story, which will be published into a digital Young Authors Anthology
Learn from each other and from our experienced instructors
Make lots of new friends!
