Matthew Ward — Instructor

Matthew Ward recently graduated with distinction from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where he received his Master of Arts in Communication Studies. During his tenure in the Department of Communication Studies at CSUN, Matthew served as a teaching associate instructing both honors and regular public speaking and argumentation courses, as a graduate assistant supervising the department’s Performance Ensemble, and as a research assistant supporting the department’s faculty. He was also a selected participant in the Bridges: Teaching Excellence Program. His academic interests are in Rhetoric and Communication and Technology, for which he presented his research, “Micro-Attractions: A Generic Comparison of Vine Videos with Early Cinema,” at the 2014 Western States Communication Association. For his academic achievements, Matthew received the Richard B. Aronstam and the Kent Joel Snyder Awards for Outstanding Graduate Student. 

Prior to CSUN, Matthew received his Bachelor of Arts in Literary Journalism and Film & Media Studies at the University of California, Irvine, where he participated in its UTeach program for which he designed and implemented a discussion-based course on YouTube as a pedagogical tool. When not in the classroom, his office, or the library, Matthew acts as an Assistant Coach for Team CrossFit and regularly takes improv and writing classes through Upright Citizens Brigade in LA. He was born and raised in Northern California.
