Nana Adjei-Brenyah, MFA — Instructor

Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah has pursued writing as a lifestyle since working and writing at the State University at Albany where he graduated in 2013. He then went on to get his MFA at Syracuse University. He is currently the Olive B. O’Connor Fellow in Fiction at Colgate University.

While at Colgate, aside from teaching fiction workshops, he created the We See You Studio, a safe space for creative collaboration, which allowed students to create across various types of media in a therapeutic, non-punitive environment as a contrast to the typical collegiate experience. He is concerned with the accessibility of education and looks forward to helping communities use writing as a tool to engage and empower young people.

Nana’s fiction employs the surreal and satirical to navigate the American realities surrounding race, consumerism and inequity. His first collection of stories, How To Sell a Jacket, is due February 2019 with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt books. He is from Spring Valley, Rockland County.
