Education Unlimited - Jacob Burdette (Instructor)

Jacob Burdette — Instructor

Jacob Burdette is a full-time educator and part-time activist/scientist/essayist/ukulele player.  He is returning for his second summer with Education Unlimited and he is overjoyed!

Jacob was born in Beckley, West Virginia and currently resides in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  He earned a B.A. in Sociology and Women’s and Gender Studies from Berea College and has publications in both fields.  Jacob will begin his M.S. in Education at Johns Hopkins University in the fall of 2017.

During his time at Berea College, Jacob served as a manager and tutor for 3 years at the university’s writing center and as Editor-in-Chief of their undergraduate journal for 2 years.  After graduation, Jacob joined Teach for America and was placed in Appalachia for his 2-year commitment.  He taught senior English at Harlan County High School for one year and currently teaches Biology, Anatomy, and Earth Science at Harlan Independent High School in his second year with TFA.

Jacob has worked in writing and science education for five years and he truly sees the value of helping others find their voice and tell their story, so he cannot wait to help his students find their voices this summer!
