Education Unlimited is a national leader in providing  public speaking and debate summer programs for kids and teens. Education Unlimited was founded in 1993 by a group of speech and debate coaches who developed our innovative curriculum. Today, our curriculum directors and on-site faculty and staff include coaches at some of the nation’s premier high schools and universities and former speech, debate competitors who reached national levels of success.

Education Unlimited's Executive Director, Matthew Fraser, founded the Stanford National Forensics Institute (SNFI) more than 30 years ago.  Prior to coming to Stanford, he ran the UC Berkeley Debate Camp.  As Director of Debate at the prestigious Head Royce School and Stanford University, he coached students to the championships of the nation's top tournaments.  He has harnessed that experience to craft a dynamic and comprehensive competitive Public Forum Program sure to help students exceed their wildest expectations for growth and success.

Participation in competitive debate helps students to develop several important skills:

  1. Critical Thinking Skills: Debaters learn to analyze complex issues, evaluate evidence, and construct logical arguments. These skills are essential for navigating the complexities of the modern world and making informed decisions.

  2. Effective Communication: Debaters develop the ability to articulate their ideas clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing. This skill is valuable in various contexts, from academic presentations to professional negotiations.

  3. Research Proficiency: Debating requires thorough research on a wide range of topics, fostering a habit of lifelong learning and information literacy. Debaters learn to sift through vast amounts of information, discern credible sources, and synthesize evidence to support their arguments.

  4. Confidence Building: Engaging in competitive debate builds confidence and self-assurance. Debaters learn to think on their feet, respond to challenges, and present their ideas with poise and conviction, skills that translate to success in various aspects of life.

  5. Empathy and Perspective-Taking: Debating often involves exploring multiple sides of an issue, encouraging empathy and understanding for different viewpoints. This fosters a spirit of open-mindedness, tolerance, and appreciation for diverse perspectives.

  6. Civic Engagement: Debaters develop a deeper understanding of social, political, and ethical issues, empowering them to become informed and engaged citizens. They learn to advocate for change, participate in democratic processes, and contribute positively to society.

At CCDI - The California Competitive Debate Institute we develop these skills while helping students find competitive Public Forum Debate success.

The program features two divisions to meet the needs of every speaker.

  • Novice Division - For students just getting started in competitive debate
  • Varsity Division - For students who have completed a year or more of competitive debate
