The institute is divided into three divisions:

  • Novice Debate: Students entering their first year of competitive speech.
  • Varsity Debate: Students who have competed in individual events for one or more years.
VARSITY  PARLI CURRICULUM

Week 1: Motion Strategy & Argument Generation

  • Motion Analysis: Students learn to quickly identify burdens, key issues, and strategic framing.

  • Case Construction Under Time Pressure: Developing organized, persuasive cases with limited preparation time.

  • Refutation & Extension Strategy: Emphasis on prioritization, clash, and narrative control.

  • POI Strategy: Advanced techniques for offering, taking, and managing Points of Information.

Week 2: Competitive Strategy & Execution

  • Strategic Collapsing: Learning how to narrow debates and control judge decision-making.

  • Judge Adaptation: Adjusting style, depth, and rhetoric based on judge expectations.

  • Role-Specific Strategy: Refining PM, LO, MG, and MO responsibilities.

  • Flowing & Round Vision: Tracking arguments efficiently to guide strategic choices.

  • Tournament Simulation: A final Parli tournament with coached feedback and evaluation.


NOVICE DEBATE CURRICULUM

Week 1: Foundations of Parliamentary Debate

  • Introduction to Parli Format: Rules, speech order, and evaluation standards.

  • Basic Motion Analysis: Learning to identify key questions and burdens.

  • Introductory Case Structure: Organizing arguments clearly and persuasively.

  • Delivery & Confidence: Emphasis on clarity, pacing, and presence.

Week 2: Skill Growth & Application

  • Argument Development: Strengthening analysis and support.

  • POI Basics: Understanding effective participation in POIs.

  • Practice Rounds & Feedback: Multiple rounds with guided coaching.

  • Tournament Simulation: Final competition experience to prepare for the season.
