The Public Forum Coaching Faculty are comprised of national championship caliber coaches who have had significant local, state and national competitive debate experience. Initially confirmed staff include:
Dave Huston, MA - Public Forum Lead Instructor
Dave Huston is both a Texas Forensic Association Hall of Fame coach and a National Speech and Debate Association Hall of Fame coach whose Public Forum teams have achieved sustained success at the highest levels of national competition, including back to back championships at Harvard in 2025 and 2026 and a Tournament of Champions runner up finish in 2025.
Over the course of his career coaching in Iowa and Texas, Mr. Huston has developed successful Public Forum programs at three different high schools in Texas. His teams have reached late elimination rounds at nearly every major tournament, including multiple championships at Grapevine, a tournament close out at the University of Texas Austin in 2024, a Texas Forensic Association State Tournament close out in 2024, quarterfinals and Round Robin championships at Blake in 2016, Tournament of Champions semifinal appearances in 2017, and multiple top 30 finishes at the NSDA National Tournament, including runners up in 2024.
In addition to his school based coaching, Mr. Huston has helped direct and coach Public Forum camps at Champion Briefs, Mean Green, and NDF. He specializes in case writing, developing arguments for and against progressive arguments, and judge adaptation.
Mr. Huston is passionate about helping students at all levels grow as competitors and believes strongly in learning by doing. He is excited to be working at this year’s Public Forum institute.
