Joseph (Joey) , MFA. - Instructor
Joey Coalter is a filmmaker, producer, and educator who recently earned his Master of Fine Arts in Film & Television Production from the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film & Media Production from Arizona State University.
Joey has worked in directing, producing, editing, and post-production with organizations including USC School of Cinematic Arts, Magic Bottle Entertainment, IndieWire, and The American Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival. His experience spans the entire filmmaking process, from script development through final edit.
In addition to his industry work, Joey enjoys helping young filmmakers develop their creative voices and technical skills. His expertise includes screenwriting, directing, video editing, and production planning.
Perhaps most uniquely, Joey is an Education Unlimited alumnus himself. As a high school student, he attended the very Video Production program he now teaches and credits the experience with helping inspire his filmmaking journey. He is excited to return and mentor the next generation of student storytellers.
Quinnolyn Benson-Yates, MFA. - Instructor
Quinnolyn is a filmmaker, producer, cinematographer, and educator who recently earned her Master of Fine Arts in Film & Television Production from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Film & Media Studies and Psychology from UC Santa Barbara, where she was named the department’s Outstanding Graduating Senior.
Quinnolyn has more than a decade of experience in narrative and documentary filmmaking. Her feature documentaryEpic Billhas been distributed on PBS, Apple TV, and Amazon, and her work has screened at festivals including the Austin Film Festival and Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
She is also a longtime mentor and instructor for the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s youth filmmaking programs, where she has worked with middle and high school students on directing, production, and storytelling. Quinnolyn enjoys helping young filmmakers turn strong ideas into finished projects while building practical skills in cinematography, editing, and creative problem-solving.
